Optimising Sleep.

Its been a while.. but I'm finally finding the time to get back into my blogging again so I thought I would kick things off with my first review on some products I've been using to help aid my recovery. Sleep is a critical component to sustaining peak performance - not only in competition, but also throughout training cycles.. So heres what I've been trying out..

The Simba Sleep Mattress
A few months ago, Simba Sleep sent me one of their mattresses, which has been great. Having numerous surgeries over the past 18 months, I have found it very difficult to find a mattress that is not only comfy but also supports my neck, back and pelvis in the correct way.

Firstly, the mattress arrived vacuum packed, which was absolutely ideal. No stress of scratching the paintwork or potential injuries whilst trying to navigate the mattress up the stairs. All you have to do is follow the simple instructions on removing the mattress from the box and leave it to expand on your bed frame - very, very easy!

Very simple & smooth setup of the mattress

I find I can sleep in any position I want as opposed to avoiding laying on my back which I have done for a while due to discomfort from my scars. I no longer wake up with an ache from my back/pelvis due to being properly supported. Relatively average in price, at £599 for a double, it is definitely worth it. Simba even offer a 100 night free trial during which you can send it back if you don't get a feel for it.

Under Armour Active Recovery Sleepwear
I have also been using the UA Recovery Wear, which again is helping to aid my recovery. The sleepwear has an advanced system to rebuild your body while you rest. The key is the print on the inside which leverages the power of Far Infrared, helping your body to recover faster and promoting a better sleep.

I overheat very easily in my sleep, often having to open the window in the middle of night or even splash myself with cold water - leading to a state of restlessness. Since using the sleepwear I have benefited massively from the materials breathability, as it pulls moisture away from the body making you sufficiently cooler. This in turn has lead to a much less disturbed sleep. Rest assured the quality does not decline through washes and you will definitely see the benefits not only to your sleep but also to your muscle fatigue levels.

Sleep is vital not only for your physical health, but also healthy brain function, emotional wellbeing and your daily activites.. a great day starts with a good nights sleep!
